Principal/Senior HV Cable Design Engineer – Energy

Overview

As an HV Cable Design Engineer, you will contribute to the UK energy transition by delivering design activities for transmission and distribution projects. You will join a growing, collaborative Energy Team and work across HVDC interconnectors, renewables, substations, and FEED design. You’ll coordinate with multiple disciplines to resolve design issues and support major projects for utility clients. This role offers ongoing development within a forward-looking firm that emphasizes sustainable solutions and cross-functional impact. Your expertise will help drive efficient, standards-based cable design in a dynamic market.

Responsibilities

• Design (Concept, FEED, and detail) of transmission & distribution systems for utility clients
• Inter-disciplinary coordination to resolve design issues with leads
• Cable installation design including routing layouts, trenching, bonding, phasing, pulling, termination and jointing
• Cable sizing calculations using CYMCAP and international standards
• Support/lead within a multidisciplinary team on major renewables, HVDC interconnectors, and FEED design

Key requirements

• Experience as HV cable design engineer in T&D or related fields
• Knowledge of electricity transmission and distribution industry
• Ability to coach and work within a broader energy team
• Bachelor in Electrical Engineering (or related field); Chartered Engineer preferred
• Experience with cable design and civil substation projects
