Overview
In this role you maintain critical building systems to ensure reliable environmental conditions. You will perform planned and reactive maintenance across mechanical and electrical assets, and manage on-site safety and compliance. You work with cross-functional teams to supervise subcontractors, manage permits, and uphold standards in line with KPIs and SLAs. A key focus is rapid fault finding to keep systems operational and safe. You’ll contribute to BGIS’s professional image through strong on-site performance and safety culture.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems (e.g., HVAC, pumps, fire systems)
- Handle reactive tasks and breakdowns across the site, including fabric and store-related issues
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractor work with emphasis on safety and quality
- Operate and manage the Permit to Work system
- Identify and resolve faults quickly to maintain system operation
- Manage spare parts and provide repair estimates
- Complete required paperwork and update maintenance systems (e.g., Maximo)
- Prepare and follow risk assessments and method statements
- Maintain clean, secure plant rooms and uphold BGIS’s professional image
- Support health and safety practices, including PPE use and near-miss reporting
- Monitor building conditions via the BMS and ensure KPIs and SLAs are met
- Carry out additional tasks as directed by site management
Key requirements
- City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 in electrical or mechanical discipline
- 17th Edition BS7671 certification
- Essential: experience in building services and maintaining electrical systems
