Senior Clinical Psychologist

Overview

You will join the ATOM team to deliver trauma‑informed psychological care for children and young people in Wigan. As a senior practitioner, you will lead specialist assessments and interventions within a multi‑disciplinary setting, supporting families and carers to reduce placement breakdown. The role emphasises attachment‑focused work, consultation, and staff training to improve care for looked after children and those at risk. This is a community‑based post with strong partnership across health, social care and education. You will shape personalised plans and drive better outcomes through collaborative, trauma‑informed practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions for children and young people referred to the ATOM service
• Develop and share trauma‑informed, attachment‑focused formulations with the care network
• Contribute to supervision and development of other staff within the MDT
• Work with health and social care colleagues to ensure multi‑agency planning and risk management
• Plan and organise work within the job plan and deliver a personalised support plan to reduce restrictive practice
• Collaborate with professionals across health, social care and education to optimise outcomes
• Offer consultation and training to teams and partner agencies
• Be flexible to work across other CAMHS services in response to service needs

Key requirements

• Professional qualification – achieved grade
• Experience of working with children therapeutically
• Desirable: experience offering professional consultations to staff teams and partner agencies
• Desirable: trained in DDP Level 1 and/or 2
• Desirable: previous experience in a senior role
• Current UK professional registration
