Business Development Manager

Overview

In this role, you will drive new business growth within the Municipal Collections sector by leading tenders from development through submission. You will collaborate with clients, partners and internal teams to craft commercially compelling bids and strong proposals. Your work supports growth plans and keeps you ahead of industry and regulatory developments. This is a chance to shape service solutions, build strategic relationships and contribute to Biffa’s ambitious expansion in waste services.

Responsibilities

• Lead tender opportunities from initial development to submission, including solution design, pricing, and commercial proposals
• Identify and develop new business opportunities across the Municipal Collections sector and grow existing contracts
• Build relationships with clients, consultants, partners and internal stakeholders to support business development
• Develop compelling bid content and presentations that combine cross-functional expertise
• Monitor industry developments and legislation to identify service enhancements and opportunities for growth
• Provide commercial and contractual support to regional teams for proposals, variations and contract expansion
• Collaborate across the business on strategic projects and broader growth initiatives

Key requirements

• Proven experience in tendering, bidding, pricing or business development with high-quality written submissions
• Strong commercial awareness with ability to develop pricing and solutions meeting customer and business needs
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with client-facing confidence
• Highly organised with strong project management capabilities and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across internal and external stakeholders
• Attention to detail with good numeracy and analytical skills; proficient in Word and Excel
• Understanding of the waste industry or municipal services and ability to stay updated on developments
• Willingness to travel and work flexibly to meet deadlines
