Overview
In this role you will lead the technical assessment of future electricity transmission needs to support the decarbonisation of Great Britain. You will work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to identify requirements, develop innovative network solutions, and provide robust evidence for major investment decisions. You’ll shape long-term network development to enable renewables, electrification, and emerging technologies, contributing to Net Zero delivery. This role combines modelling, analytics, and strategic thinking in a hybrid setup from Warwick.

Responsibilities
- Lead strategic network planning studies to identify future transmission needs and reinforcement requirements
- Lead boundary capability assessments and transfer capability studies
- Develop technical recommendations to support transmission investment decisions and business cases
- Assess impacts of generation, storage, demand growth, data centres, hydrogen, electrification, and emerging technologies
- Develop, model and evaluate innovative network solutions (topology optimisation, HVDC, FACTS)
- Translate complex analysis into strategic recommendations for senior stakeholders
- Lead development of modelling methodologies and data-driven planning tools
- Provide technical leadership for innovation projects related to future network operation and Net Zero delivery
- Mentor and coach engineers and support capability development across the team
- Champion governance and compliance with industry standards and licence obligations
Key requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related discipline
- Significant experience in transmission planning, strategic network planning, system studies, or power system analysis
- Strong knowledge of power system analysis, modelling, and transmission planning methodologies
- Experience with boundary capability and transfer assessments
- Experience with network investment appraisal and cost-benefit analysis
- Familiarity with future energy scenarios and planning processes
- Working knowledge of NETS SQSS, Grid Code, CUSC
- Experience using Power system analysis tools (PowerFactory, PSSE, PSCAD) and related software
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder influencing skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
