Overview
In this role you will act as the commercial lead for defence engineering programmes, guiding contract governance, pricing, and negotiations. You will support in-life programmes and pre-signature opportunities, mentor peers, and drive best practice across the commercial function. The position integrates with cross‑functional project teams to secure growth and successful programme delivery in a regulated environment. Hybrid working is available with monthly site presence in Plymouth.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with programme delivery and business objectives
- Provide governance and contract management across defence and support services contracts
- Serve as the primary commercial advisory point for project teams
- Lead negotiations and pricing for existing contracts and new opportunities
- Prepare and review commercial proposals to support organic growth and bids
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities with mitigation plans
- Mentor and develop commercial team members and promote best practice
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders and customers to enable programme success
Key requirements
- Commercial management or procurement experience in a regulated industry (aerospace, defence, engineering services, government contracting, technology, nuclear)
- Experience managing complex contracts through the lifecycle
- Strong commercial awareness with ability to spot growth opportunities
- Experience supporting proposals, bid activities and contract negotiations
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
- Degree / Professional qualification in relevant field; eligible for UK security clearance
