Tired of being stuck on a fixed rota? Want to own a multi-site estate rather than just clear tickets? Looking for field IT work where you decide the priorities and actually improve how things run?
This is a full-time, permanent Field Technician – IT role, focused on onsite IT support across a Multi-Academy Trust of 19 primary schools.
Working pattern & location
You’ll cover Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay on a planned rota across 19 schools — with a company van and fuel card. Priorities shift fast; you’ll be expected to redeploy when an urgent incident hits, not stick rigidly to the timetable. You’ll work hand-in-glove with a remote Helpdesk who cover the schools when you’re not onsite.
What you can expect
You’ll receive:
- £30,000–£35,000 basic, depending on experience
- Company van and fuel card for business travel
- Bonus/commission for identifying extra projects, upgrades and services
- 22 days annual leave + bank holidays (up to one working week in term time; the rest in school holidays)
- Immediate start available
- Backing from a central Helpdesk, technical team and Strategic Manager
No moving goalposts — clear ownership of the schools you support, and the space to improve them.
What you’ll actually be doing
You’ll be the main onsite technical presence across the Trust, owning day-to-day issues and helping shape longer-term infrastructure with the Strategic Manager.
Your role will include:
- Delivering high-quality 1st and 2nd line support across 19 primary schools
- Working a planned rota while adjusting for urgent incidents and emergencies
- Diagnosing hardware, software, network, Wi‑Fi, printing and user issues
- Supporting Microsoft 365, Windows devices, accounts and general school systems
- Helping with device deployment, configuration and refresh programmes
- Supporting networking, switches, wireless and other onsite kit
- Keeping clear records of work done, open issues and recommendations
- Spotting recurring problems and opportunities to make the estate more reliable
- Scoping and delivering IT projects and improvements with the Strategic Manager
- Building strong relationships with Headteachers, SBMs and key school staff
- Flagging where extra tech, services or projects would help a school or the Trust
- Supporting extra project work in school holidays
What we’re looking for
Ideally, you’ll:
- Have strong 1st and 2nd line IT support experience
- Know Windows desktops and Microsoft 365 well
- Be confident troubleshooting hardware, software and network issues
- Understand networking, Wi‑Fi and general infrastructure
- Diagnose independently and own issues through to resolutionCommunicate clearly and work well with school staff and remote teams
- Organise and prioritise your own workload across multiple sites
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Be able to obtain and maintain a clean Enhanced DBS
It would be particularly beneficial if you have:
- Experience in schools or education
- Support experience in a Multi‑Academy Trust or other multi‑site setup
- Knowledge of Intune, Entra ID / Azure AD and device management
- Experience with school filtering, safeguarding and cybersecurity tech
- Experience on infrastructure projects, migrations or hardware refreshes
You don’t need to know every school system on day one. What matters is that you’re dependable, customer-focused and happy taking ownership when several sites need you at once.
A bit about the environment
If you’re looking for somewhere you’ll be trusted to run your own day — not micromanaged from a helpdesk queue — this is it.
This is a business that:
- Expects you to think beyond a fixed rota and prioritise by impact
- Backs you with a remote Helpdesk and wider technical team
- Wants you to build real relationships with the schools you support
- Rewards you for spotting extra project and service opportunities
You’ll be treated like an adult and supported to succeed, not managed to death.
