Overview

As a Senior Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer, you lead technical delivery on traction power and substation projects across the UK, with potential international work. You ensure designs are accurate, compliant, and cost-effective, while supporting the development of junior engineers. You work with project teams, liaise with clients, and perform independent checks to uphold standards. You contribute to capability development within the Electrification & Power team and oversee construction support where needed. This role offers impact across the full project lifecycle in a global infrastructure firm.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and delivery of design packages across multiple project stages
  • Coordinate technical delivery with the project team and guidance to designers and junior engineers
  • Perform independent checks of calculations, drawings and reports to ensure compliance
  • Develop concept and detailed design documentation (calculations, reports, specifications)
  • Review outputs and provide technical guidance to others
  • Undertake site visits, surveys, and construction-stage support to inform design and ensure design intent
  • Attend site during construction to ensure works align with design intent
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders
  • Support development of traction power and substation capability within the team
  • Maintain strong Health & Safety and CDM adherence

Key requirements

  • Experience in traction power and high voltage substation design
  • Experience delivering projects from feasibility through detailed design stages
  • CRE / Lead Engineer experience is advantageous
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and design governance
  • Low voltage experience desirable but not essential
