Assistant Director of Estates – Fire Safety (Head of Fire Safety)

Overview

In this role, you will provide strategic direction and professional authority for fire safety across the Trust’s 125+ sites. You will shape and oversee the Fire Safety Strategy, governance, and assurance arrangements to ensure compliance with NHS Firecode and relevant fire safety legislation. You will act as the principal adviser on fire safety, guiding response to risks and regulatory inspections, and partnering with senior leaders to maintain safe, compliant environments. This is a high-impact leadership post within East London’s Estates team, driving safe and sustainable healthcare facilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership, professional advice, and assurance across all aspects of fire safety management.
• Lead development of the Fire Safety Strategy, governance framework, and assurance mechanisms.
• Ensure compliance with NHS Firecode, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, the Building Safety Act, and related legislation.
• Lead the Trust’s response to fire safety risks and regulatory inspections.
• Collaborate with Executive Directors, clinical and operational leaders, regulators, and external partners.
• Support the delivery of safe, compliant, and resilient environments for patients, staff, and visitors.
