Principal/Associate Geotechnical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead a diversified geotechnical portfolio across infrastructure sectors from feasibility to construction support. You will guide multi-disciplinary projects, mentor junior engineers, and nurture client relationships to support growth. The position combines technical leadership with business development in a consultancy setting. You will work in a hybrid Manchester environment on challenging ground conditions and innovative solutions that shape major infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical projects from inception to completion, ensuring delivery on time, budget, and quality
• Plan, supervise and interpret ground investigations and geotechnical data
• Perform and review geotechnical analyses and detailed design calculations
• Design and assess foundations, slopes, earthworks, and embankments
• Prepare reports, specifications, and construction documents
• Provide geotechnical input and construction phase support on multidisciplinary projects
• Act as technical reviewer and mentor to junior engineers
• Develop client relationships, assist with tenders and fee proposals, and support business growth

Key requirements

• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or related
• Chartered Engineer, Chartered Geologist or working towards chartership
• Significant consultancy experience delivering geotechnical projects
• Strong experience in ground investigations, data interpretation and report writing
• Proven ability in design of foundations, retaining structures, slopes and earthworks
• Experience managing projects, budgets, resources and client relationships
• Experience reviewing technical work and mentoring junior engineers
• Strong understanding of Eurocodes, British Standards and geotechnical practice
