Overview
As Fire Risk Engineer you will provide expert fire engineering advice across RBKC’s housing portfolio, guiding both strategy and project delivery. You will influence design standards on high-profile, technically complex fire safety projects that protect resident wellbeing. You’ll work with design teams, contractors and external bodies to embed robust fire safety across new builds, refurbishments and existing buildings. This role offers meaningful impact within a major capital programme and a forward‑thinking council.

Responsibilities
- Prepare retrospective fire strategy documents for existing residential buildings
- Provide technical fire safety input across design stages (RIBA) for new build, refurbishment and remedial works
- Carry out fire engineering analysis and modelling (e.g. CFD) to support Building Safety Cases
- Act as a competent client and oversee external fire engineers for consistent standards
- Support project teams to embed fire safety requirements into delivery programmes
- Review fire risk assessments and ensure robust fire strategies
- Provide technical advice, training and guidance to internal stakeholders
- Manage contractors and consultants to ensure compliance with fire safety requirements
- Contribute to development of fire safety policies, procedures and standards
- Liaise with Building Control and London Fire Brigade
Key requirements
- Fire engineering degree (or relevant STEM degree with fire safety specialism)
- Professional membership (e.g. Institution of Fire Engineers) with at least AIFireE status or equivalent
- Working towards or holding EngTech/IEng registration
- Strong experience in fire engineering within residential or complex building environments
- Experience producing fire strategy reports and delivering technical fire safety advice
- Solid understanding of Building Regulations and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order
- Experience working with design teams, contractors and stakeholders on large-scale projects
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including risk-based fire engineering assessments
