Overview

In this role you lead the design and delivery of Active Travel, traffic engineering, and urban realm projects to create safer, greener, and more inclusive transport networks. You’ll work within AECOM’s Bristol Streets team on complex schemes for regional clients, guiding multidisciplinary teams from concept to detailed design. You’ll mentor graduates, manage timelines and budgets, and ensure compliance with standards and safety regulations. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate design and delivery of Traffic Engineering, Active Travel, and urban realm schemes with updates to Design Lead and Project Manager
  • Support project timelines, risks, budgets, and deliverables in line with objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare and review drawings, reports, and specifications for accuracy and constructability
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, briefs, and statutory requirements
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders for integrated delivery
  • Delegate tasks to graduates and technicians; provide technical guidance and development support
  • Champion Health & Safety and CDM compliance throughout the design process

Key requirements

  • Experience in concept, preliminary, and detailed design of Active Travel and local roads
  • Expertise in walking, cycling, bus priority, and traffic calming infrastructure
  • Knowledge of drainage, junctions, and carriageway improvements
  • Familiarity with TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, and Traffic Signs Manual
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and CDM regulations
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
