Overview
In this role you will strengthen the second-line risk function with a strong emphasis on quantitative risk across insurance and financial risk. You will engage with stakeholders to challenge and improve risk governance, contribute to ORSA and internal model oversight, and help shape risk management within a leading Lloyd’s syndicate. The position offers exposure to underwriting, portfolio management, reinsurance, reserving, capital, and risk reporting at senior levels. You will work in a collaborative team that values curiosity, learning, and impact, with opportunities to guide risk strategy and operate across the business.

Responsibilities
- Deliver the Integrated Assurance Plan, scopes, execution, and final reports
- Lead risk discussions with stakeholders and provide practical recommendations
- Define and monitor risk appetite, tolerances, and KRIs, reporting to committees and the Board
- Investigate and track risk events through to resolution
- Provide analysis on risks and controls, ensuring issues are escalated and resolved
- Conduct deep-dive reviews on topics like business planning, reinsurance purchases, and reserving
- Support the Validation pillar in oversight of the Internal Model
- Contribute to ORSA to inform risk-based decisions
- Coordinate Lloyd’s PBO attestation with Compliance
- Represent Risk in working groups and change programmes
- Support due diligence on strategic transactions (e.g., RITC, M&A)
- Monitor emerging risks and market trends and their impact
- Prepare clear, concise risk reporting for management and Board
- Support development and performance management of junior team members
- Champion a culture of risk awareness and risk management across the organisation
- Lead on 2nd line objectives and collaborate across pillars to deliver shared goals
- Periodically support wider 2nd line initiatives outside primary responsibilities

Key requirements
- Actuarial experience in Underwriting/Portfolio Management or Reserving/Capital or demonstrable experience driving Insurance Risk deliverables
- Strong analytical skills and ability to generate data-driven insights
- Ability to connect themes across areas, identify interdependencies, and balance risk and reward with a commercial lens
- Clear and confident communication skills to challenge and influence senior stakeholders
- Strong written and presentation skills to engage senior stakeholders and articulate risk voice
- Sound judgement on escalation vs. resolution and ability to manage multiple projects
