Regional Underwriting Manager – Casualty

Overview

In this role you lead the UK South-East underwriting team, shaping the Casualty and Contractors Combined portfolio to drive growth and profitability. You will set regional strategy, underwrite complex business, and provide expert guidance while developing broker relationships. You’ll apply best practices, stay current with industry standards, and contribute to portfolio performance. This position combines leadership, technical underwriting, and commercial impact within a mission-driven insurer.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for the region and drive profitable growth
• Lead and develop a team of underwriters; coach performance
• Underwrite complex risks in line with regulatory and strategy
• Develop and communicate underwriting guidelines
• Build and maintain broker, customer, and stakeholder relationships
• Apply underwriting best practices to improve quality, consistency and efficiency
• Contribute to portfolio performance and business planning initiatives
• Manage risks and delegated underwriting authorities where applicable
• Share knowledge and collaborate to drive strategy and best practice
• Provide technical insights to identify opportunities and address challenges

Key requirements

• Proven leadership experience with high-performing underwriting teams
• Experience in Casualty and/or Construction underwriting
• Track record of delivering results in challenging markets balancing growth, profitability and risk
• Strong strategic mindset translating market insights into plans
• Visible in the market with broker/customer relationship skills, especially in Middle Market
• Confident communicator able to influence stakeholders and drive change
