Overview

As a Ground Segment Systems Engineer, you will contribute to mission-critical defense satellite programs for the UK MoD, delivering resilient, high-performance ground solutions. You’ll work within a skilled team across the full lifecycle, from concept to disposal, translating customer needs into integrated technical outcomes. You’ll engage with senior engineers and stakeholders to ensure on-schedule, on-budget delivery that supports national security. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge space systems and regional investment in the North East.

Responsibilities

  • Develop practical solutions to complex engineering challenges within Ground Segment systems
  • Work independently on defined tasks under general direction
  • Translate customer and system requirements into integrated technical solutions meeting performance, schedule, and cost objectives
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition for hardware and software development
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated system outcomes
  • Engage with senior engineers and stakeholders on significant technical matters to support programme goals

Key requirements

  • Experience in systems engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles across requirements, integration, and lifecycle delivery
  • Experience on complex, multi-disciplinary engineering programmes
  • Structured and analytical approach to solving technical challenges
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with senior technical personnel
  • Degree or equivalent qualification/training in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline (desirable)
