Overview
In this role you will own practical EICA design solutions for multidisciplinary projects in the water sector. You will apply electrical, instrumentation, control and automation know-how to deliver safe, efficient, and robust designs while collaborating with design managers, site teams, suppliers and clients. You’ll ensure compliance with safety, quality and commercial drivers and influence design decisions to support project delivery. The role may involve Irish project support through design checks and reviews. This is a hands-on position with meaningful impact on project outcomes and technical capability growth.
Responsibilities
- Support the Design Manager in delivering EICA design work for UK clients, with occasional Ireland project support
- Perform preliminary and detailed EICA design across electrical, instrumentation, control and automation systems
- Develop calculations, drawings, schedules and technical advice using appropriate software
- Develop and adopt design standards to streamline tasks
- Liaise with external consultants, supply chain partners, contractors and stakeholders
- Ensure design and installation standards are correctly interpreted and applied
- Mentor and train engineers and technicians within the EICA team
- Create cable schedules, block diagrams and single line diagrams
- Plan electrical layouts including cable routes using CAD
- Develop motor and instrumentation schedules, drive and load schedules
- Develop of hardwired interlock schedules and I/O schedules, control philosophies
- Contribute to functional design specifications and participate in FAT/SAT activities
- Inspect electrical installations and assist commissioning procedures
- Support commercial/estimating teams with CAPEX/OPEX modelling
- Produce technical specifications and reports
- Occasional site travel
Key requirements
- Experience in EICA/Electrical design within industrial, process, utilities or infrastructure projects
- Professional membership or working towards registration
- Proven delivery of technical designs with strong electrical infrastructure knowledge
- Experience with MCCs, SCADA, PLCs and EICA systems
- Familiarity with site power distribution, cabling, pumps, starters, drives and instrumentation
- Strong organisational and report writing skills with electrical standards knowledge
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and 2D/3D CAD, with ability to review/coordinate drawings
- Full and clean UK driving licence
- Chartered status ideally or working towards Chartered status
