Biobank Quality Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead quality management for the KHP Cancer Biobank, ensuring ISO/UKAS-aligned practices and continuous improvement across a 20+ staff biobank team. You’ll drive audits, CAPA planning, and SOP development while maintaining documentation and health and safety obligations. You will work closely with the Biobank Operational Committee to sustain accreditation and implement new compliance initiatives. This position offers meaningful impact on translational cancer research and patient-focused biobanking excellence.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain the quality management system to ISO standards (UKAS ISO20387:2018)
• Plan and conduct internal audits and CAPA processes
• Oversee staff training completion and competency records
• Manage document control and SOP development/updates
• Ensure compliance with Trust policies and regulatory requirements for biobanking
• Support health and safety duties related to biobank operations
• Lead on new initiatives to sustain UKAS accreditation
• Coordinate with the Biobank Operational Committee and senior leadership
• Mentor and coordinate a team of 20+ staff with varying experience
• Report on quality performance and non-conformance trends

Key requirements

• Degree in Life Sciences or equivalent theoretical knowledge
• Postgraduate diploma or equivalent in relevant field
• Evidence of CPD
• Proven quality management experience with knowledge of management theory
• Experience of audits and CAPA planning
• Experience of developing SOPs and quality assurance processes
• Desirable: Experience of UKAS accreditation assessment
• Desirable: Prior experience in a laboratory environment
