Overview
As Protection and Control Engineer for the BESS team, you will lead the development of protection schemes for HV assets and BESS connections, ensuring safe, compliant operation. You’ll collaborate with a multi-disciplinary design team and interface with TO/DNO substations, driving end-to-end protection design from schematics to commissioning. The role offers growth within a fully integrated design-and-build environment and exposure to flagship projects. You will mentor junior engineers and contribute to standardized designs that scale across projects.

Responsibilities
- Develop detailed HV protection schemes for transformers, feeders, switchgear and BESS inverters, including differential protection and intertrip logic (G99/G100)
- Prepare AC/DC schematics, protection logic, relay diagrams, and settings/co-ordination studies with teammates
- Create single/line diagrams, cable block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schedules and technical reports
- Specify CTs, VTs, relays, protection panels and marshalling kiosks; review vendor specs for compliance
- Support short-circuit, load flow and fault-level studies to size protection equipment and intertrip schemes with TO/DNO coordination
- Develop SCADA interfaces, signal lists, communications architectures and protocols for BESS/PCS/BMS integration
- Ensure designs comply with G99/G100, G81, and relevant British/international standards and contract specs
- Collaborate with other disciplines to deliver integrated design solutions and liaise with installation/commissioning teams for field acceptance
- Contribute to standardized systems, processes, designs and specifications to accelerate delivery

Key requirements
- Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred)
- Experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the Power industry
- Demonstrable experience designing complete HV AC protection systems from 11kV to 132kV (ideally up to 275kV/400kV)
- Understanding of HV/EHV substation installation standards and TO/DNO specifications
