Overview

As a Senior Water Resources Engineer at Stantec, you will lead mine water management projects within the Water Resources Technical Team, guiding studies from baseline assessments to closure planning. You’ll apply hydrology and hydraulics expertise to design and optimize water management infrastructure, balance water resources, and assess environmental impacts. The role combines technical leadership with client engagement across Canada, contributing to a mission of sustainable, safety-driven environmental solutions. Responsibilities

  • Lead mine water resources management projects through all life-cycle stages, including baseline studies, design, planning, and closure planning
  • Develop surface water balance and water quality models to support NI 43-101 studies as a Qualified Person
  • Conduct site-wide water balance and quality assessments and design associated water management infrastructure
  • Oversee mine closure studies and planning activities
  • Provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams and coordinate inputs from specialists
  • Manage project budgets, staffing, invoicing, and client engagement
  • Prepare proposals, work plans, schedules, and budgets, and supervise tasks
  • Author technical reports detailing modeling results, field investigations, and analyses
  • Design and supervise hydrological and water quality field investigations
  • Collaborate across teams and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory frameworks
  • Travel to field sites as required

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience with numerical hydrodynamic, hydrologic, and hydraulic modeling tools
  • Experience with site-wide mine water balance and water quality modeling
  • Background in water management infrastructure design
  • Strong knowledge of provincial and federal water resources regulations
  • Excellent communication skills with clients and regulators
  • Ability to work independently and in teams; mentorship of junior staff
  • Capability to manage multiple projects and budgets; business development skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Commitment to HSSE standards
  • Valid G-class driver’s license
  • Professional registration with PEO or another Canadian engineering association (preferred)
