Overview
In this role you will join Exponent’s Electrical Engineering Practice to apply advanced engineering and scientific methods to solve complex, high-value problems for clients. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to evaluate electrical, electronic, power, and optical systems, conduct reliability and safety analyses, and develop testing protocols. The job combines lab work, data-driven analysis, and client-facing technical work to deliver robust solutions that advance safety and performance. This is in-person in the London–Cambridge area with a path to a Cambridge lab. You will shape testing methodologies and contribute to project proposals and technical reports.
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical/electronic/power/optical engineering analyses for ongoing Exponent projects
- Carry out reliability and failure analysis on electrical/electronic/power/optical systems and components, including battery systems
- Conduct design reviews of consumer electronics
- Investigate electrocution/electric shock hazards related to devices and installations
- Develop test protocols and apply standards for testing electronic devices and systems
- Develop new software tools and improve existing software
- Prepare technical proposals, supervise laboratory testing, and manage testing projects
- Critically assess test results and data, write reports and develop new testing protocols
Key requirements
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics or Applied Physics
- Technical background in Power Systems, Electronics, Optics, Controls, Circuit Design, or Embedded Systems
- Knowledge in Electromagnetics, Automotive Systems, Medical Devices, Power Generation, Robotics, or related fields
- Experience with MEMS/semiconductor fabrication or related fabrication processes
- In-depth knowledge of programming languages (desirable)
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams
- Hands-on engineering experience with laboratory methods, instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis
- Ability to support multiple projects and market the Electrical Engineering Practice
- Experience in failure analysis, manufacturing, reliability, safety, semiconductors, or materials science (a plus)
