Senior Sustainability Consultant

Overview

As a Senior Sustainability Consultant in AECOM’s Sustainability & Decarbonisation Advisory, you will shape low-carbon, resilient estates for public and private clients. You’ll work with cross-disciplinary teams to develop and implement sustainability strategies across design, construction, and asset life-cycle. You’ll lead assessment work on schemes like BREEAM and DREAM and guide projects from early design through to delivery. This role combines technical rigor with client-facing collaboration to drive real-world decarbonisation impact.

Responsibilities

• Support clients to articulate sustainability and decarbonisation requirements
• Develop and review whole-life carbon reduction strategies across scoping mechanisms (e.g., GLA, LETI & RIBA, RICS, BREEAM)
• Collaborate with clients and designers to implement strategies from early design through construction
• Deliver assessment certification schemes (BREEAM, DREAM); LEED/WELL experience advantageous
• Provide sustainability appraisals (SAW, SEEAM)
• Support project management and programming
• Assist with bid/tender responses
• Mentor junior staff to upskill

Key requirements

• Knowledge of building design and construction processes
• Experience with WLCAs using OneClick LCA and certification schemes (BREEAM, DREAM) and sustainability appraisals
• Strong numerical/analytical abilities to translate data into practical solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• High attention to detail and methodical problem-solving
• Flexible, able to manage multiple projects
• Proven experience with sustainable buildings, low-carbon design and environmental performance
• Understanding of broader sustainability issues and mitigation on projects
• Understanding of current/future sustainability and decarbonisation policies
• Willingness to work on Defence and National Security projects
