Overview
As Electrical Machines Design Engineer, you will lead design and development of advanced mechanical systems to push performance, reliability, and innovation. You’ll influence products from concept to production within a hands-on, cross-functional environment. The role offers autonomy and access to advanced tools to deliver meaningful impact. Your work will span electromagnetic, thermal, and structural aspects to optimize motor performance and manufacturability, contributing to Turntide’s mission of sustainable energy.
Responsibilities
- Support design and optimisation of radial and axial flux electric machines, including topology, sizing, optimisation, and performance prediction
- Conduct thermal analysis to ensure cooling efficiency and reliability
- Perform electromagnetic, thermal and structural FEA using industry-standard tools
- Support drawing creation, prototype builds, testing, and validation across development phases
- Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing and control teams for seamless integration and produce design reports and specifications
- Investigate new materials, motor concepts, cooling concepts, and manufacturing improvements
- Identify opportunities to enhance performance, cost, manufacturability and efficiency
- Contribute to project plans with input on technical delivery, time plans and budgeting
- Support Quality investigations and process improvements, including manufacturing
- Assist product team with market analyses and customer insights
Key requirements
- Strong understanding of electromagnetics, electric motor physics, and thermal behaviour
- Proficiency with FEA tools such as Ansys Maxwell, Ansys Mechanical, Siemens, JMag, and MotorCAD
- Ability to interpret test data and correlate with simulations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and manage multiple projects
