Overview

As a Mandarin-speaking Customs Brokerage Supervisor you will lead UK import/export clearance operations within a growing global freight forwarder. You drive compliant, efficient processes and steer the customs team to deliver high-quality clearance services. You’ll coordinate with clients, HMRC and overseas partners, while optimizing workflows and ensuring regulatory alignment. This role suits a proactive leader who shapes day-to-day customs operations in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily UK import/export customs clearance operations to ensure efficiency and compliance
  • Lead and manage the customs team, allocate tasks, improve productivity and service quality
  • Review customs entry documentation for data accuracy and regulatory compliance with HMRC and other authorities
  • Handle inspections, holds, clearance exceptions, and resolve issues through proactive communication with clients, HMRC and authorities
  • Guide the team in resolving complex customs issues and continuously optimise workflows and SOPs
  • Maintain smooth communication with clients, warehouse, transport teams, and overseas agents to ensure seamless clearance
  • Monitor UK customs policies and regulatory changes to maintain ongoing compliance

Key requirements

  • Fluent in Mandarin with working proficiency in English
  • Experience in UK customs brokerage or international logistics customs operations
  • Proven team management experience with 1–2 team members
  • Experience in air freight, freight forwarding, express courier, or cross-border logistics (preferred)
  • Familiarity with UK import/export clearance processes and HMRC regulations
  • Proficient in using CDS (Customs Declaration Service) and related declaration systems
  • Solid understanding of HS Codes, Import VAT, Customs Duties, Rules of Origin, and compliance standards
  • Ability to independently handle customs inspections, clearance exceptions, and customer complaints
  • Strong risk identification and compliance awareness
  • Strong leadership, communication, coordination and customer service skills
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced logistics environment with stress management and problem-solving skills
