Overview
As Chair, you will lead National Highways’ Board to steer governance, strategy and delivery for England’s strategic road network. You will act as a trusted link to government and regulators, promoting integrity, accountability and constructive challenge. Your remit includes guiding safety, investment, performance and sustainability while preserving public value. You will shape strategic direction, enable timely decisions, and foster an inclusive, high-performing culture. Responsibilities
- Lead the Board and ensure effective governance, balance capability and constructive challenge
- Hold the executive to account for delivery against objectives and plans
- Advise Ministers and senior officials, and manage relationships with regulators and regional stakeholders
- Steer strategic choices on safety, investment, resilience, digital transformation and environmental sustainability
- Promote integrity, probity and inclusive culture across the organization
- Provide strategic direction and facilitate clear decision-making in a complex, high-profile environment
Key requirements
- Significant leadership experience at Board and/or Chair level
- Strong understanding of corporate governance, strategy and organizational delivery
- Ability to lead through ambiguity and build consensus
