To become an Learning Support Assistant in our Additional Learning Support department, we need someone who is committed, motivated and enthusiastic.
The successful candidate will have the chance to acquire new skills and develop their abilities in a wide range of activities.

This position is cross campus, all applicants must be prepared to travel to our other campuses or surrounding areas as required.
What you’ll be doing
To find a more detailed list of your day‑to‑day responsibilities, please refer to the key roles and accountabilities section on our Job Description. In summary, as someone who has commitment in supporting learners with SEND and promoting inclusion , you will support in many aspects. To name a few:
- You will assist students in the classroom with understanding the activities set by the tutor. As well as supporting with spelling, punctuation, and mathematics.
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred learning support through 1:1 and group interventions.
- Support curriculum delivery and learner achievement across Functional Skills, GCSE, vocational, and wider learning programmes.
- Promote inclusive practice and remove barriers to learning for students with SEND and EHCPs.
- Deliver tailored support and reasonable adjustments to meet individual learner needs.
- Plan, deliver, monitor, and evaluate learner support interventions and progress against targets.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, support teams, and external agencies to achieve positive learner outcomes.

Job Description
Aim and purpose of the job
- The Learning Support Assistant plays a key role in enabling learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to access, participate in, and achieve success in all aspects of college life.
- The postholder will provide high-quality, person-centred support that promotes inclusion, wellbeing, independence, and achievement. Working collaboratively with curriculum staff, student services, and external professionals, they will help learners overcome barriers to learning, achieve outcomes identified within Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and support plans, and progress towards their aspirations. Through effective support within classroom environments and across the wider college community, they will help learners develop confidence, resilience, self-advocacy, and the skills required for adulthood, further learning, employment, and independent living.
- The Learning Support Assistant will contribute to a positive and inclusive learner experience, ensuring support is delivered in accordance with safeguarding requirements, SEND legislation, and the College’s commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Key roles and accountabilities
- Provide high-quality, person-centred learning support through 1:1 and group interventions, enabling learners to engage, achieve their goals, and make progress.
- Support the delivery of Functional Skills, GCSE, vocational, and wider curriculum programmes by implementing strategies that remove barriers to learning and maximise learner achievement.
- Promote inclusive practice and remove barriers to participation, enabling learners with SEND and EHCPs to engage fully in college life.
- Support learners to develop confidence, resilience, self-advocacy, independent learning skills, and positive behaviours, preparing them for adulthood and future progression.
- Promote positive attendance, punctuality, engagement, and behaviour, encouraging learners to take ownership of their learning.
- Provide personal care and physical support where required, ensuring learners are treated with dignity, respect, and sensitivity.
- Deliver tailored support to learners with identified additional needs, including those with EHCPs, ensuring agreed support strategies and reasonable adjustments are implemented.
- Contribute to learner recruitment through open events, transition, enrolment, and assessment activities, supporting effective support planning.
- Assist with screening, initial assessments, and diagnostic activities, using outcomes to inform support planning and progress monitoring.
- Work collaboratively with tutors, curriculum staff, personal tutors, and external agencies to ensure support meets learners needs.
- Support the planning, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of interventions, measuring progress against learner targets and EHCP outcomes.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential learner records, in line with college procedures, funding requirements, and statutory responsibilities.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of individual learning goals, support plans, and EHCP outcomes.
- Support learners to achieve Functional Skills and GCSE qualifications, developing the skills required for future success.
- Support learners during assessments and examinations, including the implementation of access arrangements and undertaking exam invigilation duties.
- Contribute to learner reviews, annual EHCP reviews, and multi‑agency meetings by providing evidence of learner progress and support needs.
- Ensure all support activities are delivered in accordance with safeguarding, SEND legislation, Equality Act requirements, College policies, and best practice guidance.
- Champion inclusive practice across the College, helping to reduce barriers to participation, achievement, progression, and wellbeing.
- Undertake professional development and training to maintain and enhance SEND and learner support strategies.
General accountabilities
- To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
- To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the job description.
- To continually improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.
- To actively participate in the College’s Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
- To undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
- To take reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by his/her work.
- To actively support College Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity policies.
- To operate/conduct all HR tasks and functions within the principles of GDPR.
Conditions of service
The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Business Support Staff.
Salary
The salary range for this post is from £12,398.41 to £12,814.95 per annum pro rata. Your starting salary will be dependent upon your qualifications and experience. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale.
Hours of work
The hours of work will be based on: 23 hours per week for 36 weeks per year.
Annual leave
As this is a term time only appointment you will receive a payment in lieu of holiday, which is in addition to your salary. You will also be paid for any Statutory Bank Holidays and concessionary days which fall within your working week.
Pension scheme
The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the ‘Local Government Pension Scheme’.
Probationary period
All newly appointed staff have to serve a 4 month probationary period. During the probationary period you will have to complete the Corporate staff induction, a Teaching and Learning Induction session if you deliver learning and additional mandatory courses on: Equality & Diversity session, Keeping Children safe in Education, Safeguarding Training session, Prevent, GDPR, Cyber Security and Health & Safety training session. Failure to complete these will prevent you from successfully completing your probation.
First aid & fire marshal
As defined in the person specification of the job description, those staff with these responsibilities are required to undertake first aid and or fire marshal duties across the College, when called upon to do so. Staff must ensure they are up to date with the relevant training.

Please note that without 2 satisfactory references being received before the end of the probationary period, new staff will not be able to successfully pass their probation.
Location
The successful applicant will be based cross campus at Worcester, Malvern, Redditch and Bromsgrove as and when required.
Validation of qualifications
The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.
Contractual requirement to obtain a qualification
If you are required to obtain a qualification as a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available.
Maths and English
All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.
Safeguarding
The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
All newly appointed staff will be required to undertake safeguarding training following their appointment.
