Job Description:

We have a great opportunity for an experienced early years practitioner to join our team at Chawton Preschool.

The position is a term time with regular hours. We are looking for an experienced candidate with a minimum of a level 2 early years qualifications as we need to adhere to appropriate ratios. Hourly pay will be dependent on experience in line with nmw.

Your role will involve acting as a Key Person and supporting others when the main key person is absent so experience of this would be an advantage. This position requires a level of fitness as some light to medium lifting is involved with the setting up and packing away of equipment and resources. You will be required to plan activities and work with children to support their next steps in development. Communication with parents/carers at the end of the session is expected in order to share what the children have been doing that day. You will be expected to record observations and extend children’s learning. Knowledge of Microsoft office especially word is necessary to produce reports. We would like you to be available to start at 8am and finish at 3.30pm, 4 days per week, although this is not always the case and depends on what shifts are being worked. We require a passionate, creative practitioner with sound understanding of EYFS who wants to be part of our team, offering quality learning to support children’s development from 2-5years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead teachers in planning and implementing engaging educational activities tailored to preschool-aged children
  • Support children’s social, emotional, and physical development through attentive supervision and encouragement
  • Maintain a safe and clean classroom environment, ensuring all health and safety standards are met
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and team members to promote a collaborative learning atmosphere
  • Help organize daily routines such as snack time, outdoor play, circle time, and rest periods
  • Support children with personal care needs in a respectful and caring manner
  • Contribute to ongoing classroom management by managing behavior positively and consistently

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with children in childcare, nursery settings, or early childhood education environments is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills to guide young learners effectively
  • Strong communication skills in English to interact confidently with children, parents, and colleagues
  • Knowledge of childcare best practices and nursery experience is preferred
  • Ability to work actively on your feet for extended periods while maintaining energy and enthusiasm
  • Valid driving license is a plus for transporting children or supporting outdoor activities
  • A genuine passion for early childhood development and creating enriching learning experiences
