Overview
In this role you provide specialist engineering guidance across surface and highway structures within a major transport organisation. You will support planning, design, inspection, maintenance and asset management of highway and marine structures, delivering safe, cost-effective engineering solutions. You work with cross-functional teams to review technical information and ensure compliance with standards. The position combines technical assurance with practical site input to manage risk and drive continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical assurance and engineering advice across structures projects and operations
- Support planning, design, construction, inspection, maintenance and assessment of highway and/or marine structures
- Produce and review designs, drawings and calculations
- Offer professional engineering advice and challenge to internal stakeholders
- Undertake site-based risk monitoring and surveillance as required
- Apply relevant engineering standards, legislation and industry best practice
- Support delivery of safe, efficient and cost-effective engineering solutions
- Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation and whole-life asset management
- Work with bridges, culverts, retaining walls, gantries and other highway/marine structures
Key requirements
- HND in Civil Engineering (or Degree preferred)
- Graduate-level Civil Engineer with relevant practical experience
- Exposure to highway structures through inspection, design, construction or asset management
- Experience in consultancy, contractor or client environments
- Awareness of technical standards, health & safety and environmental requirements
- Ability to apply professional judgment to low-risk/low-complexity technical challenges
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Technician or Graduate Member progressing toward ICE Membership or equivalent
