Overview

In this role you will lead the commercial management for a Buckinghamshire highways project within a top UK civil engineering group. You will drive cost control, risk oversight, and reporting, working with cross-functional teams to ensure profitable delivery. You’ll partner with clients and supply chain, upholding company values and promoting best practices. This is a high-visibility position with impact on project profitability and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and professionalisation of the commercial function across the project and team
  • Forecasting, budgeting and cost reporting in liaison with finance
  • Oversee sub-contract procurement to secure best terms and compliance
  • Manage change control, variation processes and risk management
  • Ensure timely invoicing, cash flow and client interface for settlements
  • Coordinate legal, tax, insurance inputs and ensure contract compliance
  • Oversee reporting and audit readiness, and continuous improvement of commercial procedures
  • Promote alliance partnering culture and maintain good client/supply chain relationships
  • Supervise sub-contract accounts and resolution of disputes
  • Maintain costing, valuation, and project filing systems for accurate commercial agreements
  • Produce monthly financial reports and cash flow forecasts
  • Negotiate subcontractor rates and ensure timely pre-qualification and tender documentation

Key requirements

  • Strong project management and leadership skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight timescales
  • Minimum HNC/HND in relevant field
  • Previous commercial management experience in construction
  • Professional development or graduate with ongoing CPD
  • Understanding of contract terms and conditions
  • Awareness of financial/management accounting and reporting procedures
  • Business analysis and process improvement capability
