Overview

In this role you will lead the commercial management of large building and civil projects within the Ground Engineering team in London, ensuring cost control, value for money, and strong governance. You will mentor junior colleagues and steer the commercial function to support successful project delivery. The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on management of pricing, budgets, and procurement, across a portfolio of schemes. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to drive digital and lean improvements that boost project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial management across projects or a portfolio of schemes, ensuring cost control and governance
  • Manage pricing documents, BOQs, target costs, forecasts, and budgets
  • Oversee subcontractors and supply chain relationships to support delivery
  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks, and manage opportunities
  • Monitor progress against programme and budgets; report on commercial performance
  • Lead procurement activities and evaluate complex tenders with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Support recruitment, development, and people management for direct and indirect reports
  • Maintain stakeholder and contractual correspondence in alignment with project goals

Key requirements

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent professional experience
  • RICS, ICES or CIOB membership or active progression toward membership
  • CSCS card or ability to obtain
  • Strong experience in cost control, pricing, forecasts, budgets and cost reporting
  • Experience managing subcontractors, tenders, procurement, and supply chain relationships
  • Ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities to improve outcomes
  • Good understanding of governance, programme monitoring, and contractual communications
