Senior Civil Airfield Engineer – Aviation

Overview

In this role you will help shape the airports of tomorrow by delivering resilient, sustainable airfield projects. You’ll join a UK-based multi-disciplinary team and work on international assignments, mentoring junior engineers and supporting CPD. You’ll manage design collaboration, ensure deliverables meet cost, quality and schedule targets, and uphold safety and regulatory standards. This is a hands-on, leadership-focused position with opportunities for travel and impact across global aviation initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Support preparation of technical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications for airfield projects (UK and overseas)
• Coordinate design teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders
• Identify and manage design risks, issues, and RFIs
• Ensure deliverables meet cost, quality, and time targets
• Act as a senior role model and provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff
• Champion health and safety, including safety in design and CDM compliance
• Support project managers with progress monitoring and project controls (change management, information management, document control)
• Respond to client directions professionally and maintain relationships with clients and peers

Key requirements

• University degree in civil engineering, construction, design or related discipline
• Chartered or Incorporated status preferable but not essential
• Experience delivering large, multi-disciplinary airfield civil projects
• Knowledge of international airfield design standards (ICAO, CAA, EASA, FAA)
• Experience with Civil 3D and other airfield design tools (AviPlan, SkySafe, FAARFIELD) preferable but not essential
• Understanding of construction contracts (NEC) preferable but not essential
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a team and also independently, making technical decisions
