Overview

In this role, you will advance our Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology through design, development, testing, and manufacturing scale-up. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, reliable navigation systems for demanding applications. You will analyse data, troubleshoot and optimize FOG performance, while staying aligned with cutting-edge photonics and manufacturing methods. This position offers a chance to impact scalable, customer-focused FOG solutions within a research-driven culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of FOG and related systems for performance, reliability, and manufacturability
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes for FOGs with scalability to large production volumes
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and production teams for integrated product development
  • Analyze test data, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements for FOG performance and reliability
  • Stay updated on advancements in FOG technology, photonics, and manufacturing techniques
  • Contribute to a customer-centric approach ensuring FOG meets demanding applications
  • Develop and establish efficient testing processes for fibre optic coils
  • Develop capabilities for coil stress conditioning
  • Support and guide Production Engineering to develop performance metrics and SPC measures
  • Guide design and development of fibre optic coil related process tooling

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Optics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in Fiber Optic Gyroscopes
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of FOG physics including the Sagnac effect
  • In-depth knowledge of photonics (light sources, optical fibers, couplers, modulators, detectors) relevant to FOGs
  • Solid background in electro-optical systems design and integration
  • Experience with manufacturing processes for optical or precision electro-mechanical systems, especially at large scale
