Overview

In this role you will lead Unum UK’s financial reporting, ensuring accuracy across UK GAAP, US GAAP, and Solvency II while strengthening internal controls. You’ll manage external relationships, drive automation and process improvements, and mentor a high-performing team. The position offers senior stakeholder exposure and a direct influence on strategic financial decisions within a global benefits business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead statutory financial reporting under UK GAAP for Unum UK and subsidiaries
  • Oversee Solvency II regulatory reporting (QRTs, SFCR, RSR) with accuracy and timeliness
  • Lead US GAAP reporting to Unum Group and provide insights
  • Maintain strong financial control framework and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
  • Drive continuous improvement and automation of reporting processes
  • Act as primary liaison with external auditors and coordinate audit activity
  • Produce high-quality reporting and materials for senior stakeholders
  • Lead and develop a high-performing finance team
  • Support transformation projects and process improvements across finance

Key requirements

  • Qualified accounting designation (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Significant post-qualification experience
  • Strong experience in Financial Services/Insurance or regulated environments
  • Deep knowledge of UK GAAP, US GAAP, statutory reporting, and control frameworks
  • Understanding Solvency II reporting requirements
  • Experience leading reporting teams and managing external audits
  • Continuous improvement mindset with focus on process and controls
  • Strong financial systems knowledge and interest in automation and technology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences
