Overview

Join McLaren as a Supplier Quality Engineering Industrial Placement Intern in Woking to help ensure supplier parts meet the brand’s stringent quality standards. You will support audits, inspections, and data-driven improvements across a global supplier network, contributing to parts from prototype builds to series production. This 12‑month on-site program offers hands-on exposure to automotive quality and supplier management within a high-performance supply chain. You will work with experienced engineers to apply best practices and develop relevant skills for a career in automotive quality.

Responsibilities

  • Support supplier quality audits and document findings
  • Assist incoming part inspections and data analysis to identify trends or non-conformances
  • Help manage supplier corrective actions and track closure
  • Contribute to supplier performance reviews and monitor metrics like PPM and delivery adherence
  • Participate in APQP and PPAP activities for new model introduction
  • Support root cause analysis for supplier-related quality issues
  • Assist with supplier capability assessments and reporting
  • Coordinate containment actions for non-conforming parts

Key requirements

  • Currently studying for a Mechanical, Manufacturing, Automotive Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related degree at a UK university
  • Strong interest in quality assurance and supplier development
  • Analytical mindset and willingness to engage with real-world engineering and supply chain challenges
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes or quality tools (8D, FMEA, Six Sigma) is advantageous
