Overview

In this Billing Manager role, you will oversee the London office billing function (with Brussels and Dubai) within Mayer Brown’s global Revenue Cycle Operations. You’ll drive statutory compliance (VAT, AML, SRA Accounts Rules), uphold internal controls, and lead scalable, cross-market billing processes. You will develop the billing team, manage performance, and partner with senior leaders to deliver accurate, timely invoicing and data-driven insights. This position combines day-to-day management with strategic process improvement to elevate service quality and drive efficiency across markets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Billing Team, including resource planning, training, performance feedback, and development
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of billing transactions aligned with internal and client SLAs
  • Coordinate with Directors and International Partners to deliver prompt billing requirements
  • Build client/Partner relationships to understand billing arrangements and improve invoice efficiency
  • Produce and circulate billing data (WIP, metrics, targets) to drive performance
  • Oversee WIP and meet key performance targets with Revenue Controller Manager and Controllers
  • Lead on finance committee/partner meetings to promote billing best practices
  • Deliver services via a globally aligned platform for standard and international billing across markets
  • Identify process improvements and drive change with cross-functional teams
  • Document processes for audits and maintain adherence to financial controls and policies
  • Collaborate with Global Accounts and other departments to ensure effective communication
  • Maintain service levels and accuracy to meet month/year-end deadlines
  • Maximise efficiency and service quality across the billing function
  • Support day-to-day activities and assist in issue resolution

Key requirements

  • Minimum 5 years in legal finance in a similar role
  • Experience managing a team in a high-volume/busy environment
  • Proven project management and successful implementations
  • Extensive experience in legal finance processes and procedures
  • Solid knowledge of VAT, AML, SRA Accounts Rules
  • Experience with Aderant/Elite preferable
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong written/verbal communication
  • Professional, confident leadership able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
