Overview

In this role you will serve as both Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director at Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove, leading medical care on Crocus Ward and guiding clinical governance. You will drive high-quality, safe inpatient care for women with acute mental illness and oversee medical audits, liaising with a multidisciplinary team. As Medical Director you lead medical practice, staff performance, and regulatory compliance across the hospital. The role combines frontline psychiatry with strategic leadership to improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on delivering high-quality care to Crocus Ward inpatients
  • Act as a positive role model for patients, families, and staff
  • Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans with the MDT
  • Assess referrals and perform mental state examinations
  • Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits
  • Drive risk assessment, risk management and clinical governance
  • Supervise MHA tribunal reports and hearings; support leave approvals
  • Maintain regular communications with Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
  • Contribute to CPD and academic activities per GMC/DoH/RC Psychiatrists standards
  • Support Second On-call rota and participate in regional needs

Key requirements

  • Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Specialist registration in General Adult Psychiatry (CCT/CESR, Section 12, AC status)
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Experience in mental health diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Code of Practice
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
