Overview
In this role you lead the health and safety function across rail projects, sites and offices, driving a culture of safe working, sustainability and wellbeing. You provide strategic guidance, expert risk control and practical support to project teams and stakeholders. You will embed robust policy, deliver training and investigate incidents to support safe, compliant project delivery. This is a high-impact role shaping safety practices in a major rail environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead the rollout of the Safe, Sustainable and Wellbeing strategy across projects
- Provide day-to-day health and safety leadership and support to teams and contractors
- Ensure policies and management systems reflect current legislation and are implemented
- Maintain and update health and safety documentation for the management system
- Conduct site inspections, audits and manage corrective actions
- Oversee incident reporting, investigation and communication per procedures
- Support continuous improvement through lessons learned and audits
- Deliver toolbox talks, training, and coaching for stakeholders
- Provide technical assistance to Project Managers and Head of Operational Health and Safety
- Attend meetings with clear updates on HSE matters
- Line manage and support other Health and Safety Advisors
Key requirements
- Significant experience as a Health and Safety Manager in a Tier 1 organisation
- Experience in rail, power, utilities or tunnelling sectors
- Solid understanding of health and safety legislation
- Knowledge of electrical/mechanical standards and construction practices; ISO 45001
- Experience conducting accident/incident investigations
- NEBOSH Diploma or NCRQ Diploma
- Graduate IOSH membership
- CSCS card and full UK driving licence
- Strong IT skills (Word, Excel)
- Excellent communication, coaching, investigation and report-writing skills
