Overview

In this role you will take ownership of a varied building surveying portfolio, from initial assessment through project completion. You will deliver condition and pre-acquisition surveys, due diligence, maintenance planning, defect diagnosis and dilapidations, along with reinstatement cost work. You’ll manage budgets, procurement, contract administration and employer’s agent duties while guiding junior surveyors. You will build strong client relationships and contribute to fee proposals and tender submissions, helping the firm grow. This is a broad, client‑facing role with exposure to refurbishment, major works and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied portfolio of building surveying instructions from assessment to completion
  • Conduct condition and pre-acquisition surveys and technical due diligence
  • Plan and oversee maintenance, defects, dilapidations and reinstatement cost assessments
  • Prepare reports, specifications, schedules of work and contract documentation
  • Lead project delivery including budgets, procurement, contract administration and contractor management
  • Act as Employer’s Agent where required and perform Party Wall and CDM Principal Designer/Advisor duties
  • Maintain strong client relationships and provide practical advice on defects, maintenance, acquisitions, leases and neighbourly matters
  • Mentor and develop junior surveyors; share expertise with graduates and assistants
  • Support business development through client relationships, fee proposals, tenders and identifying repeat business opportunities
  • Work across a broad range of instructions to broaden service delivery and client exposure

Key requirements

  • Chartered Building Surveyor with a broad technical background
  • Experience across condition surveys, pre-acquisition surveys, defects diagnosis, refurbishment and repairs, dilapidations and contract administration
  • Ability to manage client relationships and contribute to fee proposals and tenders
  • Experience supporting junior surveyors and leading on projects
  • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations and statutory compliance
  • Willingness to take ownership of projects and client relationships
