Overview

In this role you will develop and analyze advanced guidance, control and navigation algorithms across the full system lifecycle. You will contribute to the design, implementation and verification of real-time architectures for guidance and control in complex aerospace platforms. You will work with RF/IR seekers, inertial sensors, actuators and propulsion systems, influencing future guidance, testing strategy and technical direction. You will collaborate across departments and international teams from research to flight trials, supporting strategically important defence programmes. This position is hands-on with technical influence and meaningful impact in Bristol.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and analyse guidance, control and navigation algorithms across the system lifecycle
  • Contribute to specification, design, implementation and verification of real-time guidance and control architectures
  • Work with complex aerospace systems including RF/IR seekers, inertial sensors, actuators and propulsion interfaces
  • Influence future direction of guidance and control design, testing and strategy
  • Define engineering requirements and objectives from complex challenges
  • Manage system complexity by identifying key technical drivers in interconnected environments
  • Diagnose system abnormalities via modelling, simulation and physical investigation using MATLAB/Simulink
  • Collaborate across departments, directorates and international boundaries from concept to flight trials

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience in aerospace guidance, control and navigation specification, analysis, and implementation
  • Strong understanding of navigation systems, sensors, algorithms, real-time architecture and verification
  • Ability to cross-verify complex systems and models against theory
  • Experience using MATLAB and Simulink for modelling and analysis
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to define unambiguous requirements
  • Ability to provide technical influence across programmes and operations
  • Interest in control applications, preferably applied flight control
