Business Rates, Surveyor – Associate

Overview

In this role you will provide strategic and technical Business Rates advice to a broad client base across commercial portfolios. You will manage Check, Challenge, Appeal work and liaise with the VOA, aiming to reduce rate liabilities for occupier and investor clients. You will nurture client relationships, take ownership of instructions, and mentor junior colleagues, with senior opportunities in business development and team growth. This is a well-established Rating platform with a strong workload and high-quality clients, offering clear progression toward Director level for high performers.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and technical Business Rates advice across commercial property portfolios
• Manage Check, Challenge, Appeal (CCA) work and interact with the Valuation Office Agency
• Prepare valuation evidence, negotiate assessments, and identify rate-liability reduction opportunities
• Advise on reliefs, exemptions, and changes to property assessments
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships and take ownership of instructions
• Support and mentor junior team members; at senior level contribute to business development and growth of the team
• Contribute to winning new instructions and shaping team growth

Key requirements

• Strong experience in Business Rates / Rating
• MRICS qualified or actively pursuing qualification
• Experience with CCA work, valuation evidence, and VOA negotiations
• Ability to manage client relationships and own instructions
• Experience across one or more commercial property sectors
• Commercially minded with a desire to develop within an established Rating platform
