Overview

You will deliver psychological assessments and interventions for children and young people in a secure setting, supporting staff and developing trauma-informed care within a multidisciplinary team. You’ll lead on formulations, supervise trainees, and contribute to service development and staff training, helping reduce escalating behaviours and promote mental health in a high-support environment. The role sits within the Children’s and Young People’s Complex Care Service, with a clear impact on safeguarding and youth justice outcomes. This is a chance to shape a new secure unit and advance evidence-based psychology across services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychological assessments and interventions for young people in the secure unit
  • Develop formulations and deliver trauma-informed, evidence-based therapies
  • Offer group and 1:1 supervision and consultation to multidisciplinary staff and trainees
  • Lead on staff training related to complex trauma and psychology-informed practice
  • Support service development through research, audits and outcome measures
  • Collaborate with Local Authority and health colleagues to coordinate care and reduce escalation of behaviours
  • Contribute to policy development and reflective practice across teams
  • Produce psychology input for safeguarding and youth justice contexts

Key requirements

  • BPS accredited Honours degree in Psychology or equivalent
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (BPS/HCPC accredited)
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Post-qualification experience with children and families
  • Experience with assessments for harmful sexual behaviour and youth justice context (desirable)
  • Additional training in working with children and families (desirable)
  • Clinical supervision training for doctorate trainees (desirable)
