Sir Robert McAlpine,through Integrated Health Projects (IHP), our long-standing jointventure with VINCI Building, has been appointed to deliver the newLeighton Hospital in Crewe as part of the Government’s New HospitalProgramme. 

This is a majoropportunity to join the team at the early stages of one of the UK’smost significant healthcare programmes. The new hospital willreplace the existing Leighton Hospital and will be delivered usingthe Hospital 2.0 approach, bringing together standardised design,digital innovation, clinical leadership and collaborative deliveryto create a modern healthcare environment for patients, staff andthe wider community.

The SeniorConstruction Manager role  

We are seekingexperienced Senior Construction Manager/Chief Engineer to joinour team on one of the New Hospital Programme projects in Crewe.This is a career-enhancing opportunity to work on an £800millionscheme through to 2033 with our long-standing joint ventureIHP. 

Reporting to the ProjectDirector, the Senior Construction Manager will providestrong technical and leadership direction to deliver the projectsafely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality andperformance. 

You will lead teams ofengineers, site management, and subcontractors, ensuring thatengineering, design coordination, and construction activities arefully aligned with programme, budget, and regulatoryrequirements. 

 

KeyResponsibilities 

  • Oversee the full construction engineeringprocess, ensuring all engineering designs, methodologies, andprocedures comply with statutory regulations, technicalspecifications, and industry standards. 
  • Provide visible leadership across siteoperations, embedding a safety-first culture and ensuring health,safety, and wellbeing are always the highestpriority. 
  • Monitor and manage the project programme,identifying risks and opportunities across design, procurement, andconstruction activities, and implementing mitigation measures whererequired. 
  • Ensure the project is delivered withinagreed time and budget constraints, supporting cost control andvalue management initiatives. 
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate technicaland construction risks, maintaining the integrity and performanceof the project. 
  • Lead and coordinate engineering teams,works staff, and subcontractors, providing mentoring and technicalguidance as required. 
  • Maintain strong and proactive relationshipswith the client and stakeholder teams, acting as a key technicalinterface. 
  • Maintain accurate and auditable records ofengineering decisions, approvals, and technicalchanges. 
  • Set and manage short- and long-term projectobjectives, ensuring alignment with overall projectgoals. 
  • Contribute to and review internal andexternal project reports, providing clear and accurate updates onprogress, risks, and opportunities. 

 

YourProfile 

EssentialRequirements 

  • Proven experience deliveringmultimillion-pound healthcare construction projects, ideally withinlive clinical environments. 
  • Strong leadership and people-managementskills, with the ability to manage, coordinate, and mentorengineering and construction teams. 
  • Collaborative approach with excellentcommunication and stakeholder managementskills. 
  • A strong advocate for health, safety, andwellbeing, ensuring safe working practices are embedded across allproject activities. 
  • Detailed working knowledge of NECcontracts, including procurement and contractadministration. 
  • Demonstrable ability to identify, analyse,and mitigate project risks, while also identifying opportunitiesfor improvement and value. 
  • Experience preparing and contributing toproject reports for internal management and externalstakeholders. 
  • SMSTS qualification. 
  • Valid CSCS Card.
