Business Development Manager

Company: Sprint Innovations Ltd.
Apply for the Business Development Manager
Location: London
Job Description:

Hi there! We’re a small team of skilled tech enthusiasts working on a handful of large software projects, primarily in the finance, property and telco industries.

We work remotely in our Roam virtual office, with a daily 9am stand-up and the usual fortnightly agile sprints. We offer our clients the highest standards in software design, development and support – so we all possess a keen attention to detail and a desire to provide a great service, within the boundaries of what’s realistic.

With many businesses keen to take full advantage of AI, a lot of our focus is on implementing agentic systems to ensure our clients stay well ahead in the AI race. We’re looking for new team members who are as excited about creating valuable technology partnerships as we are.

The role

In short: consultative business development for custom software, digital products and AI solutions.

We’re looking for a Business Development Manager to help Sprint build new client relationships and identify opportunities where our technology expertise can create meaningful business value.

You’ll generate and qualify opportunities, understand prospective clients’ underlying needs and work with our technical team to shape credible solutions. You’ll manage relationships throughout the sales process—from initial contact and discovery through proposal, negotiation and handover into delivery.

This is not a high-volume, scripted sales role. Our projects are complex, consultative and often business-critical. Success depends on asking intelligent questions, building trust and being honest about what technology can realistically achieve.

You don’t need to be a software developer, but you must be comfortable discussing software, digital transformation and AI with both business and technical stakeholders. You’ll need the judgement to avoid overpromising and the curiosity to learn how our services can solve real operational and commercial problems.

AI-assisted tools can support research, prospecting and communication, but they do not replace expertise or judgement. You must verify their output, protect confidential information and take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work.

What you’ll do

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities for custom software, digital products, process automation and AI solutions.
  • Build a healthy, well-qualified pipeline through targeted outreach, referrals, networking, partnerships and inbound enquiries.
  • Research prospective clients, their industries and the commercial or operational challenges they may be facing.
  • Lead initial discovery conversations and establish the underlying business need, desired outcome, urgency and decision-making process.
  • Qualify opportunities carefully, focusing our time on work where Sprint can deliver genuine value.
  • Explain Sprint’s services clearly to business and technical stakeholders without relying on jargon or exaggerated claims.
  • Work with our technical team to shape appropriate solution options, estimates, proposals and presentations.
  • Coordinate and contribute to tenders, proposals, statements of work and other commercial documentation.
  • Manage opportunities through the sales process, maintaining momentum and agreeing clear next steps.
  • Build trusted relationships with decision-makers and other stakeholders throughout longer sales cycles.
  • Negotiate scope, commercials and contractual terms with support from Sprint’s leadership team.
  • Maintain accurate, current records of opportunities, conversations, forecasts and follow-up actions.
  • Produce realistic pipeline forecasts and communicate risks, dependencies and changes promptly.
  • Ensure a clear, well-documented handover from business development into project discovery and delivery.
  • Maintain relationships with existing clients and identify appropriate opportunities to provide further value.
  • Represent Sprint professionally at meetings, networking events and industry activities.
  • Use AI tools appropriately, verify their output and protect client data, credentials and proprietary information.
  • Share market insight and client feedback to help improve our services, positioning and business development practices.

What we’re looking for

  • Commercial experience in business development, consultative sales, account development or a comparable client-facing role.
  • Experience selling software development, SaaS, digital services, technology consultancy or another complex business-to-business service.
  • Evidence of generating and progressing your own opportunities rather than relying entirely on inbound leads.
  • A consultative approach that begins with understanding the client’s objectives, constraints and underlying needs.
  • The ability to communicate credibly with senior business stakeholders and collaborate effectively with technical specialists.
  • Confidence discussing software, digital products, process improvement and AI at an appropriate business level.
  • Experience managing a structured sales pipeline and maintaining accurate CRM or opportunity records.
  • The ability to qualify opportunities objectively and recognise when Sprint is not the right fit.
  • Experience contributing to proposals, presentations, commercial discussions and negotiations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Good commercial judgement, including an understanding of scope, value, risk and delivery constraints.
  • The confidence to challenge assumptions constructively without damaging the client relationship.
  • Strong ownership, organisation, attention to detail and follow-through.
  • The ability to work independently while involving technical or commercial colleagues at the right time.
  • Real examples of building trust, managing objections and handling disagreement constructively.
  • The judgement to evaluate information critically, whether it comes from a prospect, colleague, market source or AI tool.
  • A commitment to honest, responsible selling without making promises the delivery team cannot support.

You do not need to be a software developer, but you must be technically curious and able to hold credible conversations about software and AI. This role is not suitable for someone who relies entirely on generic sales scripts, high-volume outreach or unsupported technical promises.

Useful, but not essential

  • An established network within the finance, property or telecommunications industries.
  • Experience selling custom software development, product design, systems integration or process automation.
  • Experience developing opportunities for AI agents, generative AI or other AI-enabled business solutions.
  • Familiarity with software discovery, agile delivery and the typical stages of a digital project.
  • Experience responding to tenders or coordinating formal procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform, APIs, data integration or modern web application development.
  • Experience working in a consultancy, software agency or small technology business.
  • Experience developing referral, channel or strategic partnerships.
  • Experience supporting account growth and identifying opportunities within existing client relationships.
  • Experience using responsible AI-assisted prospecting, research or proposal-writing practices.

Life at Sprint

We offer a flexible, trusting environment where motivated people can do their best work, keep learning and see the impact they create for clients. We value practical solutions, high standards and open collaboration – not technology for its own sake.

Additional benefits include:

  • Bupa health insurance option or cash alternative after the probation period.
  • 22 days’ holiday plus bank holidays – 31 days in total.
  • Fast and fair progression for high performance.

We aim to complete the process within four weeks. Every candidate follows the same stages and is assessed against the same evidence-based criteria.

Application and verification

We review your CV, short introduction and public professional profile on LinkedIn.

Introductory screen – 5 to 10 minutes

A structured conversation about your recent experience, motivation, availability and fit with the essential criteria.

Structured interview – 60 minutes

We ask every candidate questions covering pipeline development, opportunity qualification, consultative discovery, commercial judgement, stakeholder management, technical credibility and responsible AI use.

You review a representative prospective-client scenario and explain how you would research the organisation, qualify the opportunity, conduct the initial discovery conversation and agree the next steps.

Decision and feedback

The interviewers score the evidence independently before comparing notes. We then make a prompt decision and confirm the outcome.
