Overview

You will be the on-site expert responsible for maintaining, fault-finding, and repairing large industrial chillers and refrigeration systems. You’ll work across Sunderland and nearby Leeds, supported by a national engineering network, delivering reliable service with a strong safety focus. The role combines hands-on diagnostics, planned maintenance, and responsive breakdown support to keep critical cooling plants running. This position offers long‑term development within a regional team and a clear path through a safety‑mirs culture and ongoing training.

Responsibilities

  • Servicing, maintaining and repairing industrial refrigeration and chiller plant
  • Carrying out PPM and reactive call-outs
  • Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and control faults
  • Producing clear service reports and recommending improvements
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard
  • Working independently on site while collaborating with the wider service team

Key requirements

  • Refrigeration apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
  • Proven experience with industrial refrigeration and large‑scale chillers
  • Experience with HFC systems and ideally ammonia and/or CO2
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, piping diagrams, and system layouts
  • F‑Gas 2079 and ammonia handling certification
  • Familiarity with OEMs such as SABROE, Frick, York, Bitzer, Howden
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Strong diagnostic skills
  • Proactive and customer-focused mindset
  • Safety-conscious and compliant approach
  • Industrial refrigeration and large‑scale chiller knowledge
  • HFC systems, ammonia/CO2 handling
  • Interpreting electrical schematics and piping diagrams
