The Opportunity

You’ll be an important part of Derby City Council’s Adult Learning Service, helping to create positive experiences for learners and supporting colleagues across our centres and outreach venues.
As Senior Administration Officer, you’ll lead and support a valued administrative team, helping colleagues to develop while working together to provide welcoming, well-organised learning environments. You’ll have the opportunity to build strong relationships, introduce improvements and help shape the way the service works. What you’ll be doing
- Lead and support administrative and examination teams across multiple learning centres and outreach venues.
- Oversee learner enrolment, records and administrative systems, ensuring information is accurate and compliant.
- Coordinate timetables, staffing and venues to make effective use of resources across locations.
- Oversee fees, purchasing and invoices, ensuring financial processes are accurate and responsible.
- Promote a high-quality, learner-focused service and respond to feedback to drive improvements.
- Oversee the safety, facilities, equipment and resources of learning centres, including duty manager responsibilities outside standard hours.
- Lead and support colleagues through change, helping teams adopt new ways of working.
- Help ensure vulnerable learners are supported and that equality, safety and safeguarding remain central to the service.
About you
- Experience of supervising and supporting an administrative team, including allocating work and developing staff.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and build effective working relationships.
- Experience of coordinating administrative services across multiple locations or teams.
- Experience of maintaining accurate records and using digital systems to manage information.
- Understanding of data protection, compliance and audit requirements.
- Experience of financial administration, such as fees, purchasing or invoices.
- A proactive, collaborative and adaptable approach, with a commitment to providing a high-quality, inclusive service.
