Overview

As HR Manager for Tunstead Cement Plant and related operations, you will partner with senior leaders to steer people strategies that drive performance and engagement. You’ll lead employee relations, change initiatives, and workforce planning in a fast-paced, unionised environment. This role sits in a national HR team, offering influence across the business and a visible impact on culture and capability. You’ll shape HR practices that support business objectives while fostering an inclusive, high-performing workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert HR guidance to senior leaders on complex people matters
  • Manage employee relations including disciplinary, grievance, absence and capability cases while minimising risk
  • Lead industrial relations activities with Trade Union representatives and support annual pay negotiations
  • Drive organisational change initiatives (restructures, reorganisations, redundancies) with compliant consultation
  • Coach leaders to strengthen management capability and foster a high-performance culture
  • Support workforce, succession, and talent development planning to meet future needs
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, early careers, and educational engagement initiatives
  • Utilise HR data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with the wider Cement and Packed HR team to ensure consistent practices

Key requirements

  • Significant generalist HR experience in manufacturing/industrial environments
  • Experience managing complex employee relations cases and change programmes
  • Experience in a unionised environment with Trade Union relationships
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and practical application
  • Coaching and influencing leaders across multiple levels
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline and CIPD Level 5 (or working towards)
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance people priorities with business objectives
  • Decision-making under pressure with ability to manage conflicting priorities
