Overview
As a Principal Transport Planner at Stantec, you will lead and deliver a diverse portfolio of public-sector transport projects across the North of England and nationwide. You’ll mentor junior staff while engaging directly with clients and senior stakeholders to ensure high-quality standards. You’ll contribute to business development and shape transport investments through robust appraisals, business cases, and regional strategies. This role blends technical excellence with leadership across multidisciplinary teams in a supportive, development-focused environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead development and delivery of high-profile transport projects including major scheme appraisals, business cases, and local/regional strategies
- Engage directly with clients at various levels and ensure deliverables meet client and company standards
- Collaborate with project teams to produce high-quality outputs and maintain documentation standards
- Support business development in transport planning areas and contribute to proposal and strategy
- Mentor, guide, and provide technical advice to junior staff
- Partner with leadership to advance career development and delivery excellence
- Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and across modes including active travel and public transport
- Contribute to evidence-based decision making for transport investments
Key requirements
- Highly numerate with strong report writing skills
- Excellent communicator with ability to advise internal and external stakeholders
- Experience leading delivery of transport planning, appraisal, and business case projects
- Experience developing a strong evidence base for investment decisions
- Experience across modes including active travel and public transport
- Broad understanding of current transportation trends and challenges
- Experience collaborating with leaders across disciplines to deliver projects and grow the business
- Ability to work independently or as part of a project team
- Mentoring or managing junior staff (advantageous)
- Chartered or working towards chartership with ICE, CIHT, TPS, CILT, etc. (advantageous)
