Overview

In this role you will manage the design process for technically compliant, cost-efficient design packages across pre-construction and project delivery. You will coordinate digital and sustainability requirements and liaise with subcontractors, design team members and external consultants to meet DfE and Building Regulations. You will lead design information release, chair client engagement meetings and workshops, and coordinate complex packages while validating details. You will work with DfE, Technical Advisors and project teams to mitigate risks and ensure statutory compliance. A strong focus on Arch, Structures and MEPH and BIM Level 2 is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design process to deliver compliant, cost-efficient, coordinated design packages during pre-construction and project delivery
  • Engage and manage digital and sustainability requirements of the project
  • Liaise with subcontractors, design team members and external consultants to meet DfE and school requirements and Building Regulations
  • Manage design information release, production and approval of technical drawings, chair Client Engagement Meetings and design workshops, coordinate complex design packages, validate design details
  • Provide expert guidance and technical support with DfE, Technical Advisors and project teams to identify/mitigate risks and ensure compliance with statutory, legal, and planning requirements
  • Demonstrate technical competence across Architecture, Structures and MEPH
  • Assist with selection and scope of suitable subcontractors for Contractor Design Portions and working drawings
  • Ensure design programme is developed and managed with all parties to inform the TIDP and MIDP
  • Regular reporting both internally and externally

Key requirements

  • Design Management Experience, ideally within DFE/Schools sector
  • A collaborative, can-do approach with strong stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to listen, understand, engage and motivate, with decisive, confident decision-making
  • Desire to learn, improve and share knowledge
  • Understanding of design and construction processes within the DfE sector, and interface with Revit and AutoCAD and BIM Level 2 requirements
  • Desire to drive improvements through digital construction
  • Excellent communication skills for both personal and formal reporting
  • Ability to review designs for technical completeness and buildability
  • Experience developing Consultant scopes of service, Design Responsibility Matrix and VE proposals; leading design programme
