About the role:
Justteachers is currently recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Leeds area on a long-term basis from September.
This is a full-time position with an immediate start, and we are actively shortlisting candidates. The setting offers a structured, supportive, and trauma-informed environment for secondary-aged pupils who attend alternative provision due to behavioural, social, emotional, or mental health (SEMH) needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting students with SEMH and behavioural challenges to access learning and successfully reintegrate into education
- Developing positive, supportive relationships with pupils who may have faced barriers in mainstream settings
- Applying effective behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation and restorative practices
- Assisting with the delivery of tailored learning plans to meet individual student needs
- Collaborating with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to support student progress and wellbeing
Pre-requisites
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, youth work, or a related support role
- Demonstrated experience working with children or young people with SEND, ideally within a secondary setting
- A solid understanding of behaviour management techniques, de-escalation methods, and emotional regulation strategies
- Two professional references, preferably from education or school-based roles
