Overview

As Community Standards and Engagement Manager, you lead the Residence Life programme to support wellbeing, belonging and success for students in accommodation. You will manage a team of Residence Supervisors and Assistants, delivering a proactive, student‑focused community experience. You’ll coordinate wellbeing interventions, conduct processes and community standards, while partnering with university colleagues to align with institutional priorities. This role combines frontline leadership, programme development and a year‑round on‑call commitment to maintain a safe, inclusive residential environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop Residence Supervisors and Residence Assistants, including coaching, performance management and recruitment
  • Oversee onboarding, training and ongoing development for staff (wellbeing awareness, safeguarding, risk management, conflict resolution)
  • Manage staffing deployment across residence life activities, wellbeing interventions and conduct processes
  • Administer HR processes (attendance, performance, discipline, payroll) per policy
  • Design and deliver a diverse Residence Life programme fostering engagement, belonging and student success
  • Create and deliver a residential curriculum and engagement strategy with resident feedback
  • Maintain visible presence in accommodation and build strong resident relationships
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to support wellbeing and independent living
  • Oversee wellbeing, conduct and community standards interventions and referrals
  • Lead occupancy breaches, conduct matters and escalation paths to senior leadership as needed
  • Visit residences to address welfare concerns and mediation in disputes
  • Manage the Residence Life budget and allocate resources effectively
  • Oversee incident reporting, case management and engagement records
  • Produce MI and reports to support service improvement
  • Engage in key university events ( arrivals, open days, applicant days )

Key requirements

  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent experience
  • Significant management experience in a large, complex organisation (higher education, student accommodation, or customer-facing environment)
  • Experience developing services or programmes that enhance student engagement, wellbeing or customer service
  • Experience in conflict management, mediation, conduct processes and dispute resolution
  • Strong crisis management, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate teams
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building relationships with students, staff and stakeholders
  • Experience using data to review services and inform improvements
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital management systems
