Overview

In this role you lead health, safety and wellbeing on large infrastructure and energy projects, acting as Principal Designer where applicable. You’ll partner with project teams and JV partners to ensure HSW compliance and drive safer design and construction practices. You’ll deliver H&S training, support design and site teams, and help transform HSW approaches across the project lifecycle. You’ll work with a global practice that emphasises sustainable, safe project delivery and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project teams and JV partners to deliver HSW requirements across projects
  • Support the role of Principal Designer on projects
  • Provide HSW guidance to design and onsite teams, aligning with prevention principles
  • Monitor project activity for compliance with H&S legislation, client standards, and company procedures; raise concerns as needed
  • Deliver Health & Safety training to project staff to ensure understanding of regulations and processes
  • Review and assess competency of external designers, consultants and contractors
  • Participate in accident/incident investigations and share lessons learned with senior leadership
  • Conduct site audits and inspections; promote best practice in HSW internally and externally
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in HSW throughout project and lifecycle stages

Key requirements

  • Experience as Principal Designer on projects
  • Experience in HSE teams within Engineering/Wind/Water/Transmission sectors
  • Ability to facilitate HAZID/HAZOP workshops
  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or degree in related field
  • HSE chartership or Cert IOSH-level accreditation and working towards full chartership
  • Strong knowledge of national H&S legislation
  • Ability to influence teams to uphold high HSW standards
  • Understanding of how health and safety is monitored through design to construction and end use
  • Experience with audit processes and identifying areas of concern
  • Strong coordination and leadership skills to motivate internal and external teams
